1955

Ray Charles moved to Dallas in 1955 and resided in a small bungalow on the corner of Eugene and Myrtle. When asked why he chose the city, he said he wanted to settle down with his growing family and capitalize on the central location which accommodated his busy touring schedule. When taking a break from touring, you could find Charles at jam sessions at Woodman Hall or performing at the Empire Room. Many credit Dallas as the perfect place that helped Charles define and refine his legendary sound. After finding some success on the charts, he moved to a larger home in Los Angeles in 1958.
