1991

Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in Britain’s history, has visited Texas only once. She spent two days here in 1991, and split her time between San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Austin. While in Dallas, she attended an hour-long “Dallas Arts Happening” in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, which featured the Dallas Symphony Chorus, Ballet Folklorico Hispano de Dallas, the Dallas Black Dance Theatre and eight other local performing groups. The concert was followed by a reception and formal dinner at two of the buildings in Dallas's Fair Park. It’s said that Queen Elizabeth was not prepared for the aggressive air conditioning used to fight off the summer heat and had to borrow a fur jacket from the flagship Neiman Marcus store.
