Chapter 26 of the Texas Property Code, better known as the Buddy Holly bill, passed in 1987. This landmark piece of legislation protects the heirs of deceased celebrities from exploitation. María Elena (Holly) hired lawyer Shannon Jones, Jr., of the Dallas firm Passman & Jones, to help her push the bill through, and they personally lobbied legislators to ratify it.
