1968

Like many airfields, Dallas Love was initially established as a United States Army Air Service base. Established in 1917, the base was initially used to train new pilots during World War I. However, the Love Field airport evolved quickly and soon left its military history behind. By 1968 Dallas Love Field opened the “Terminal of the Future” which included a fully automated monorail system that took passengers from long-term parking to the terminal. In the same year, they added a baggage and ticket wing extension, a Southwest office building, and opened a new American terminal and hangar.
